Here are some of Room 5's stories about Waitangi Day and how New Zealand used to be.
A long time ago Maori
people lived in New Zealand. England
came to New Zealand in a ship. The Maori
people cooked their food under the ground.

have houses. They had to hunt. Their clothes were animal skins. Their houses were made of tree trunks. But then Captain Cook went over to the
English people and said “There is this wonderful place called New Zealand”. They all shared it.
